Forbes' Names Michelle Obama 4th "Most Powerful" Woman In The World


Michelle Obama is officially the fourth most powerful woman in the world, according Forbes. The first lady landed on the publication's annual "World's Most Powerful Women" list, but fell short of first place which went to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Grio reports:

The Forbes list contains political leaders, philanthropists, celebrities and CEOs. The top 100 women are ranked based on money, their media presence, and impact over the last 12 months.
Mrs. Obama has been actively fighting childhood obesity with her Let's Move nationwide initiative,encouraging school-aged kids to eat healthy and stay active.
The mother of two actively joined the fight against gun violence early in 2013, attending Chicago shooting victim Hadiya Pendleton's funeral and speaking at conferences to help gain support for her husband's new gun control measures, which Congress ultimately failed to pass.
Outside of politics this year, Michelle Obama made a funny appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and announced the Academy Award for best picture.

Being the "most powerful" adds Mrs. Obama to an elite list of figures, including Melinda Gates (# 2), wife of Microsoft powerhouse Bill Gates, and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Hilly Clinton came in fifth place, while celebrities likes Angelina Jolie (#37) and BeyoncĂ© (#17) were recognized for their "power," outside of acting and singing.
