I’ll appear before Orji’s probe panel – Kalu

UMUAHIA — Erstwhile governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has said he has nothing to hide and will as such appear before the probe panel set up by his successor, Chief Theodore Orji, to examine the running of the state’s defunct newspaper, Statesman.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, the former governor said the decision to constitute the probe panel was of no great significance to him, given that he had nothing to fear concerning the running of the newspaper during his stewardship.
He affirmed that besides defending the running of Statesman, he was ready to defend all the actions taken during his stewardship in government.
He, however, said he would appear before the panel only when he was properly invited and would not heed what he described as a “news flash on Nigeria Television Authority” requesting him to appear.
Kalu described the invitation through the television as an abuse of court process.
Disabusing insinuations that he compromised the interests of Statesman to establish his privately owned newspaper, The Sun, Kalu said his newspaper and the printing presses were purchased through bank guarantees obtained from Guarantee Trust Bank, Plc which he said had now been fully repaid.
