2face mourns Fatai Rolling Dollar: I regret not working with him

2face has sent a condolence message to the family of the late octogenarian and Highlife icon Pa Fatai Rolling Dollar. In the message he prayed for God to console the family the great man left behind and also regretted not having recorded a track with baba.

“Fatai Rolling Dollar was a great musician. He was one of the icons of his and our times and many people will miss him. He had a good run and got well into his eighties. It’s sad for anyone to die but when someone has made the kind of impact he has made and lived that long, we must thank God for his mercies,” 2face said.
“I mourn with his family and the Nigerian music industry. He was a father to his family and a father to us too. He was the oldest active musician in Nigeria and we will all miss him.
“Regrettably, I didn’t have the opportunity of recording with him but I was in a show where he performed too. I performed alongside him.
“I pray that God consoles the family he left behind and the Nigerian music industry,” he said.
Pa Fatai Rolling Dollar died on Wednesday, June 12, at the age of 87. He was reportedly on a musical tour of USA when he took ill and had to return home midway through the tour. He was initially admitted at Ahmadiya Hospital in the Alagbado area of Lagos before being transferred to Marritol about two weeks ago.
The “Won Kere Si Number Wa” crooner was born to the royal family of Olagunju in Ede, Osun State, on July 22, 1926. He started his musical career in 1953 and has mentored other great musicians like Evangelist Ebenezer Obey and the late Orlando Owoh among others.
May his soul rest in perfect peace, amen.
