Spike Lee has always been a Hip-Hop favorite, whether its his films or working with the likes of Gang Starr and Public Enemy. The Brooklyn native also has a healthy dose of respect for the new generation of MCs; particularly J. Cole.
While he was promoting his Kickstarter campaign, the devout New York Knicks fans had kind words for the Roc Nation rapper, while also name checking one of the North Carolina MC's tunes. "I had the great pleasure of meeting J. Cole the other day. I like him, love his new album," the School Daze director told Hip-Hop Wired. "Especially the first song of the album, ['Villuminati.'] I said, 'You had some lyrics about Jay Z in that song. [laughs]"
Lee went on to credit films that dropped before the latest generation of MCs might have been born, like 1989's Do The Right Thing, for making him relatable to the new jacks. The man also known as Mars Blackmon assured that he will be directing Big K.R.I.T.'s video for "Praying Man" off last year's Live From The Underground.
Peep Spike Lee big up J. Cole below.
