Every year, people all over the world vow to dust off their gym memberships, and finally replace that keg with a six-pack. Where some have succeeded, many more have failed. There's not one person on earth that wouldn't kill for a year-round beach body, and that includes rappers.
From calorie counting to flat out starvation, (which isn't recommended) individuals all over the globe fight the battle of the bulge—celebrities and normal people alike. Being in shape and having that perfect body might always be on Hollywood's radar, but you seldom hear that talk within the Hip-Hop community.
Why rap about fitness, when you're too busy eating T-Bone steaks and penne alla vodka, while washing it down with the champagne of the moment? But some MCs actually did replace the most celebrated foods in the culture, and just settled for a plain old-fashioned garden salad with a side of water in order to achieve their goal.
So the next time you need motivation to get off the couch and head to the gym, just take a look at these 10 rappers for inspiration. If they can do it, so can you.
Lil Cease
After B.I.G.'s death, the Brooklyn native who served as Frank's loveable chubby sidekick, went onto release his solo effort, The Wonderful World Of Cease A Leo in 1999; and then vanished from the scene not too long after. He then resurfaced a few years ago looking like a chiseled WWE action figure, while promoting his Hardbody Fitness DVD series.
LL Cool J
Uncle L just dropped an album, if you care. But nowadays you'll find him on the cover of a mag like Men's Fitness instead of The Source or XXL.
Fat Joe
Now when your stage name is “Fat” Joe, odds are you're going to be fat. Thus was the case with man born Joseph Cartagena. After revealing that the most he ever weighed was 350 pounds, the BX Bomber shed an entire person from his body by eating more fruits and vegetables, while also staying away from breads and pasta. His regimen includes cardio and weight lifting as well.
The Game
If you follow the Game's Instagram you know he loves sharing pics of his children and his ridiculous sneaker collection. Also, he is serious about #60DayOfFitness movement, and he as the physique to prove he isn't playing.
Nelly
This St. Lunatic was never overweight or anything like that, it was more about him being in shape by default, while planting his name all over the Billboard Charts. But in the latter years of his career, he's filled out, and bulked up quite a bit, and he's not shy about showing off his hard work. You can always pick up one of his Celebrity Sweat DVD's too
Joell Ortiz: Besides bursting onto the scene as one of the best lyricists coming out of Brooklyn, the Slaughter House member was also a little soggy in the midsection. But is seems like being an employee of Shady Records/Interscope Records along with touring money has done him well, due to the fact of photos popping up on the Internet now showing a more leaner version of Mr. Ortiz
Ja Rule
In Ja Rule's heyday, me might of thought he was diesel, but he was just your average skinny guy running around without a shirt on. But the former Murder Inc. rapper emerged on Instagram looking like he took full advantage of his recreational time in the yard. Maybe Noreaga can learn a few things from him.
Dr. Dre
Nowadays, Dr. Dre looks more like an action figure than a super producer and Beats By Dre peddler. Clearly Mr. Young is too busy hitting the gym to finish Detox.
Busta Rhymes
Busta got ripped, and then ballooned up to 294 pounds last year. He looks to be getting slimming back down, though.
